About the position

The Staff Auditor position at Kemper focuses on enhancing the use of data analytics within Assurance & Advisory Services (A&A). The role involves collaborating with various departments to design, develop, and execute data analytics that support audit engagements. The Staff Auditor will also identify opportunities for process automation and assist in developing automated controls, ultimately improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the level of understanding of data and visual analytics within A&A
  • Enhance the use of analytics within assurance and advisory engagements
  • Increase understanding of analytics for process owners and business lines
  • Create and maintain sustainable analytics for repeated and scalable use
  • Develop analytics to improve centralized control testing
  • Assist in the maturity of the control environment using analytics and continuous auditing
  • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques
  • Identify and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Understand data structure in different databases for efficient data extraction
  • Filter and clean data for analytics and reporting
  • Work with A&A leadership to prioritize needs
  • Collaborate with management to understand business processes and identify automation opportunities
  • Seek process improvement opportunities leveraging analytics
  • Work with IT partners to establish best data access methods
  • Maintain knowledge of business and economic developments in the insurance industry
  • Exhibit high standards of ethics, professionalism, and integrity
  • Build skills as identified in an individual development plan

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, information systems, statistics, or a related field
  • 1+ years of overall experience, with at least six months in data analytics
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to understand business processes and risks
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled in gathering, analyzing, and presenting data
  • Ability to recognize patterns and trends in data
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, scripting, and visualization tools
  • Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, Python, or similar languages
  • Ability to apply descriptive analytics to validate assumptions
  • Experience in insurance or financial services

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in data science, data analytics, statistics, or a related field
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Experience working effectively in a remote environment
