About the position

The Staff Data Engineer II is a key role within a continuous delivery team at Western Alliance Bank, focusing on integrated data flows, data warehousing, and analytics. This position requires strong technical expertise and collaboration with both technical teams and business stakeholders to implement solutions based on Azure Cloud architecture. The engineer will champion data quality throughout the data lifecycle and must stay updated on industry trends in data integration and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Implement data engineering solutions for the full data lifecycle, ensuring technical hygiene and utilizing Azure DevOps for regulatory reporting and analytics.
  • Develop ETL and data pipeline capabilities for data creation, transformation, maintenance, storage, archiving, analysis, and sharing.
  • Implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines according to technical standards.
  • Establish data governance and quality controls in all data solutions per enterprise standards.
  • Apply Test Driven Development methodology to data solution design and implementations.
  • Incorporate unstructured data and big data into data solutions.
  • Lead the implementation of recommendations and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture.
  • Participate in data architecture decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience in data management and/or analytics.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, specifically with ETL concepts, enterprise data warehouse capabilities, and related tools; strong expertise in Azure Data Factory and/or Databricks is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Services, Azure Synapse, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure DevOps.
  • Expertise in at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, or Spark SQL.
  • Experience with design tools for creating conceptual architecture and data flow diagrams, such as Visio, Archimate, or Lucid Chart.
  • Familiarity with data science and analytics tools like SAS, Tableau, or PowerBI.
  • Familiarity with multi-cloud data management and transformation platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, or Matillion; experience with regulatory reporting solutions for large financial institutions is preferred.
  • Certifications in Azure such as Azure Fundamentals, Azure Data Engineer, Azure Data Scientist, and/or Azure DevOps Engineer.
