About the position

The Staff Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in the New Propositions team within Walmart's E-Commerce division, focusing on validating and scaling innovative initiatives in Augmented Reality, Generative AI, and home delivery. This position is designed to enhance customer experiences and redefine retail relationships through technical innovation. The role involves designing, coding, testing, and modifying software for data platforms and solutions, ensuring high performance and quality standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, configure, and modify software for data platforms and pipelines.
• Lead the design, development, testing, and debugging of data infrastructure and tooling.
• Monitor data platforms and solutions to ensure durability, availability, and performance.
• Engage with business stakeholders to refine the data core platforms roadmap.
• Provide guidance to other engineers and analysts on data modeling and automation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, platform/infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or a similar role.
• 2+ years of experience leading a team of data engineers.
• Proficiency in Python and/or other programming languages.
• Experience working on a Scrum team in an agile delivery environment.
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence.
• Experience in eCommerce and/or conversational commerce.
• Ability to manage and execute across multiple priorities independently.
• 2+ years of experience with Looker.
• Proficiency with Airflow, DAGs, and ETL processes.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with large data sets in the cloud.
• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
