About the position

The Staff Data Engineer (Infrastructure) at SiriusXM is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a robust and scalable data infrastructure that supports data professionals in driving innovation and informed decision-making. This role focuses on deploying and scaling the data platform to ensure it serves as a reliable hub for data-driven insights, utilizing cloud technologies and best practices in software engineering and DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure including cloud infrastructure and data lakes.
• Research and recommend new technologies to address strategic issues.
• Introduce new technical solutions to enhance productivity, scalability, quality, and reliability of the data platform.
• Design and implement data platform features impacting multiple components and team members.
• Set high coding standards for the data platform team.
• Provide assistance and encouragement to team members during setbacks.
• Improve execution performance of team members.
• Encourage diverse perspectives to strengthen innovation.
• Document projects that cross multiple teams and systems.
• Write clear documentation for complex technical solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data infrastructure needs.
• Implement best practices for data infrastructure designs to optimize resource utilization and minimize latency.
• Identify and address bottlenecks in existing data infrastructure.
• Design and build observability solutions to monitor resource utilization and trigger alerts.
• Integrate data platform infrastructure with other systems for seamless collaboration.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and challenges.
• Communicate project status, issues, and solutions effectively.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software development focused on building cloud infrastructure for data professionals.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Typescript, Python, Scala, or Java.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like CDK or Terraform.
• Experience with data technologies such as Databricks, MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Spark, and Sqoop.
• Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka, Kinesis, Beam, Flink, and Spark.
• Knowledge of data storage solutions, database systems, data integrations, and data warehousing.
• Experience with CI/CD, build, and deployment technologies such as Git, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with Databricks is a plus.
• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
