About the position

WellSky is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Platform team, which is part of our growing group of Enterprise Engineering organization. This position is ideal for a data enthusiast who is looking for a significant challenge and wants to be part of a small, agile engineering team that is empowered to make a difference. The Staff Data Engineer will play a crucial role in bringing an enterprise view of client data to a single pane of glass, enabling better observation, reporting, and actions to improve patient health. This role directly impacts users of our solutions, including patients, doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and administrators, who are on the front lines of healthcare and community services. The work done in this position will touch the lives of real people and families navigating critical life and death issues with the support of our solutions. We aim to build purpose-driven teams where camaraderie and compassion are coupled with a relentless pursuit of excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data architecture, data models, and standards for various Data Integration and Data Warehousing projects in BigQuery, along with other technologies. You will develop data solutions to enable new product and BI development for the enterprise and its multiple lines of business. Additionally, you will maintain documentation of the data architecture, data flows, and data models, aid in the implementation of data governance, and lead, mentor, and collaborate with other talented engineers in the fields of Data, Software, and Dev/Ops.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining the data architecture, data models, and standards for various Data Integration & Data Warehousing projects in BigQuery.
  • Developing data solutions to enable new product & BI development for the enterprise and its multiple lines of business.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation of the data architecture, data flows, and data models.
  • Aiding in the implementation of data governance.
  • Leading, mentoring, and collaborating with other engineers (Data, Software, & Dev/Ops).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 8-10 years of software development experience with any object-oriented, high-level programming language.
  • A deep understanding of data architecture principles and data warehouse methodologies.
  • 1+ years of hands-on architecting and building cloud data solutions in BigQuery.
  • Adept at ETL/ELT development and optimization.
  • 8+ years of data architecture and data modeling experience.
  • Highly skilled in SQL.
  • Familiarity with HL7/FHIR resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient working with large, structured data sets, 1+ billion rows/5+ terabytes.
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of Kafka or Pub Sub.
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance and Data Change Control.
  • Familiarity with GCP FHIR Server, DataPlex, and DataForm.
  • 3+ years developing solutions with JavaScript.
