About the position

As the Staff Data Engineer II at Western Alliance Bank, you will be responsible for designing, building, and implementing critical components of the enterprise data platform to support the bank's regulatory reporting strategy. This role requires a strong background in data management and cloud data engineering, as you will work closely with data analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to enhance data integration practices and improve analytics capabilities. You will also mentor other data professionals and ensure data quality throughout the data lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data engineering solutions for the full data lifecycle.
  • Develop ETL and data pipeline capabilities for data creation, transformation, and sharing.
  • Implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines according to technical standards.
  • Establish data governance and quality controls in all data solutions.
  • Apply Test Driven Development methodology to data solution design and implementation.
  • Incorporate unstructured data and big data into data solutions.
  • Lead implementation of recommendations from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture.
  • Collaborate with product owners to understand business requirements and processes.
  • Provide technical mentorship to team members and data professionals.
  • Perform data exploration and profiling using tools like Informatica and SPSS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience in data management or analytics.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, specifically with ETL concepts and enterprise data warehouse capabilities.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and implementing cloud data solutions, preferably with Azure services.
  • Expert level experience with at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL or PL/SQL.
  • Experience in conceptual, logical, and physical data design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data science and analytics tools such as SAS, Tableau, or PowerBI.
  • Experience with multi-cloud data management platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Experience in Agile, SAFe, or Scrum methodologies.
  • Certifications in Azure such as Azure Fundamentals or Azure Data Engineer.
  • Banking or financial services industry experience.
