About the position

Pinterest is seeking a Staff Data Scientist for its Infrastructure Data Science and Engineering (IDSE) team. This role is crucial in managing Pinterest's infrastructure systems, which include storing Pins, training ranking models, and serving ad impressions. The company prioritizes efficient management of infrastructure spend and usage, making this position a top-line priority. The IDSE team is responsible for providing actionable insights on Pinterest's infrastructure data, which helps in reducing costs, improving efficiency, lowering the carbon footprint, and promoting sustainable growth. As a Staff Data Scientist, you will be challenged to quantify what success looks like in terms of infrastructure spend versus business growth, measure progress towards infrastructure goals, and analyze strategies for improvement. You will also lead the team, define strategic roadmaps, and collaborate closely with partners in Engineering, Finance, and Technical Program Management across the company. Responsibilities

  • Quantify what winning looks like in terms of infrastructure spend and business/product growth.
  • Measure progress towards infrastructure goals and develop necessary dashboards, forecast models, and analyses.
  • Analyze opportunities to improve strategy based on data insights.
  • Lead and up-level the IDSE team, defining strategic roadmaps and guiding execution.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Finance, and Technical Program Management teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data.
  • Proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data.
  • Expertise in at least one scripting language (ideally Python/R).
  • Proficiency in SQL/Hive.
  • Strong business and product sense, with the ability to shape vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams.
  • Experience leading key technical projects and influencing the scope and output of others.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $148,049-$304,496 USD, eligible for equity based on various factors.
