About the position

As a Staff Data Scientist at Google, you will play a pivotal role in serving our worldwide user base of over a billion people. Your primary responsibility will be to provide quantitative support, market understanding, and strategic insights to various partners across the organization. You will act as an analytics expert, leveraging your data expertise to help teams make informed decisions. This role requires a unique blend of technical skills and the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively. You will be responsible for transforming raw data into meaningful stories that drive critical recommendations for your colleagues in Engineering and Product Management. In this position, you will engage in a variety of analytical tasks, utilizing tools such as SQL, R, and Python to perform in-depth analyses. You will be expected to provide analytical thought leadership by proactively suggesting new analyses, infrastructure improvements, or experiments that can enhance business performance. Your work will encompass the entire analytical process, from problem definition and metrics development to data extraction, manipulation, visualization, and the creation of analytical models. You will also be responsible for presenting your findings to stakeholders, ensuring that your insights lead to actionable outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis utilizing relevant tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python).
  • Provide analytical thought leadership through proactive and strategic contributions (e.g., suggests new analyses, infrastructure or experiments to drive improvements in the business).
  • Own outcomes for projects by covering problem definition, metrics development, data extraction and manipulation, visualization, creation, and implementation of analytical/statistical models, and presentation to stakeholders.
  • Develop solutions, lead, and manage problems that may be ambiguous and lacking clear precedent by framing problems, generating hypotheses, and making recommendations from a perspective that combines both analytical and product-specific expertise.
  • Oversee the integration of cross-functional and cross-organizational project/process timelines, develop process improvements and recommendations, and help define operational goals and objectives.
  • Directly or indirectly oversee the contributions of others and develop colleagues' capabilities in the area of specialization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 10 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) (or 8 years of work experience with a Master's degree).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 12 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
