About the position

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer will lead the scaling and deployment of advanced machine learning and deep learning models within the Data Ventures team at Walmart. This role involves architecting scalable data science solutions, advocating for MLOps best practices, and guiding team members in optimizing and deploying various ML models. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights and improve business decision-making through innovative data products.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable end-to-end data science solutions for data products.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, scientists, and developers to create ML and statistics-driven models.
  • Scale advanced machine learning algorithms and complex statistical models on large data volumes.
  • Own the MLOps lifecycle, including data monitoring and refactoring data science code.
  • Demonstrate thought-leadership and consult with stakeholders to deploy holistic machine learning solutions.
  • Guide team members in achieving MLOps-driven data science outcomes across multiple products and initiatives.
  • Follow industry best practices and stay updated with advancements in machine learning research.
  • Participate in internal technical councils and represent the organization in relevant forums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field with 4 years of experience in an analytics-related field, or a Master's degree with 2 years of experience, or 6 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Machine Learning, MLOps, MLflow, Kubeflow, Python/R, SQL, Big Data, GCP, and Shell scripting.
  • Experience in NLP/NLU, Forecasting, and Anomaly detection solution development and deployment.
  • Experience in scaling infrastructure for high-throughput data-intensive applications using PySpark/GPU.
  • Experience integrating ML models with web services.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
  • Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
  • Experience with open-source frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
