About the position

The Staff DevOps Engineer will be part of the Developer Productivity Engineering (DPE) team at PayPal, focusing on enhancing the developer experience through the design, development, and maintenance of a scalable and reliable Pipelines Platform. This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers and product managers to influence the platform's vision and architecture, ensuring high-quality standards in the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Responsibilities

  • Involved in all aspects of the SDLC, from ideation to scoping to design and implementation.
  • Lead by example to elevate design, implementation, quality, and engineering practices across the team.
  • Utilize programming skills in Java, Groovy, Go, and other languages to build scalable systems and produce well-tested code.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation related to projects.
  • Conduct code reviews, triage, and solve live issues.
  • Participate fully in all scrum team activities and collaborate with cross-functional groups.
  • Maintain and enhance existing architectural and developer documentation, creating new ones as needed.
  • Invest in personal career growth through learning new technical or soft skills.
  • Assist internal PayPal teams in onboarding to the Pipelines solution and adapting it to changing needs.
  • Thrive in a high-paced and fun work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technology-related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science).
  • 8+ years of experience in Object Oriented programming, software design, data structures, and programming fundamentals.
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, CI/CD, Terraform, and related technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Harness CI/CD platform or similar CI/CD platforms.
  • Proficiency in Java, Groovy, Golang, Python, and scripting languages.
  • Competency in using Git and build tools like Gradle and Maven.
  • Experience with Docker/Containerization and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge or certification in public cloud technologies (GCP or AWS) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux administration and Service Oriented Architectures is a plus.
  • Experience with Git, JIRA, Confluence, and Slack in an Agile environment is a plus.
  • Experience delivering on objectives and key results in an Agile ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of algorithmic techniques, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with effective communication skills, data-driven mindset, and team player attitude.
  • Demonstrated experience in building distributed systems with high scalability and availability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and practices in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and practices.
