About the position

In this role, you will be part of the Developer Relations team at Google, where your passion for technology and collaboration will shine. As a Developer Programs Engineer, you will engage with developers both at conferences and online, advocating for their interests within Google. This position is a blend of community management and developer advocacy, requiring you to be hands-on in writing sample code, creating client libraries, and participating in developer forums to troubleshoot and debug coding issues. Your technical expertise will be crucial as you work closely with product engineering teams to enhance our products by relaying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs, and testing new features. You will promote and support various platforms, including Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5, and our core Google Apps and Ads APIs. Your leadership and technical skills will enable you to drive how applications function across multiple platforms and industries, fostering a vibrant community of developers. You will lead a team that deeply empathizes with external technical communities, advocating for their needs to the Google Cloud Product and Engineering teams. This ensures that our products are designed to meet community requirements and deliver optimal user and developer experiences. You will also work to raise awareness of Cloud technologies and methodologies within technical communities through enablement and inspiration, while driving strategy for Google Developer Relations efforts focused on specific communities and products. The position offers a competitive salary range of $168,000 to $252,000, along with bonuses, equity, and benefits. The salary is determined by role, level, and location, with individual pay reflecting work location and other factors such as job-related skills and experience. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with developers at conferences and online to advocate for their interests.
  • Write sample code and client libraries to support developers.
  • Participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot coding problems.
  • Work with product engineering teams to improve products based on developer feedback.
  • Review API designs and test new features to ensure quality and usability.
  • Lead a team that empathizes with external technical communities and advocates for their needs.
  • Raise awareness of Cloud technologies within technical communities through enablement and inspiration.
  • Drive strategy around Google Developer Relations efforts for specific communities and products.
  • Build and foster an external community ecosystem of influencers and experts to amplify messages and extend reach.
  • Represent the needs of technical communities throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of work experience in a technical role such as software engineering or solutions consulting.
  • 7 years of experience working with Cloud technologies.
  • 5 years of experience in direct people management within a technical team or organization.
  • 5 years of experience coding in one or more general-purpose programming languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience leading across multiple groups and coordinating teams on critical product efforts.
  • Experience with AI tool development.
