About the position

The Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Nursing in managing the nursing service department within a Long-Term Care Facility. This position involves planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing programs and activities to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines. The SDC is responsible for developing policies, coordinating nursing services, determining staffing needs, supervising employee scheduling, and ensuring quality nursing care is provided to residents.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the nursing service department.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures for the nursing service department.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Determine staffing needs for the nursing service department to meet residents' total nursing needs.
  • Supervise and assist in scheduling employees within established state guidelines.
  • Ensure direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel, including licensed nurses and CNAs.
  • Review nurses' notes for accuracy and compliance with resident care wishes.
  • Incorporate instructional materials and training aids into in-service programs as needed.
  • Lead the formulation of goals and objectives for in-service educational programs.

Requirements

  • Experience in supervision and principles of teaching.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for residents.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with personnel, residents, families, and the public.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities.
  • Current RN license in the state.
