About the position

The Staff Electrical Engineer R&D at CooperSurgical is a lead technical role focused on the design and development of electrical and electronic solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems. This position requires managing projects with limited oversight, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and interfacing with external suppliers and development partners. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with medical device design control guidelines and will mentor junior engineers and interns.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on committed targets impacting department results related to electrical and electronic solutions for complex systems.
  • Formulate and deliver electrical/electronic architecture and lead development of electrical circuit schematics.
  • Establish design feasibility by testing circuits and demonstrating statistical capability for critical functions.
  • Design and debug electrical systems compliant with 60601 EMC and Safety requirements.
  • Test and characterize complex PCB functional blocks in support of firmware development.
  • Drive medical device Design Control compliance and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coach team members in design control processes and best practices.
  • Communicate key technical content to internal and external parties and manage external development partners.
  • Drive improvement and consistent global implementation of product development procedures and best practices.
  • Create formal Verification test protocols, run tests, and write Verification test reports.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the development of complex electrical systems in the medical device industry.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related fields; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive R&D experience in electronics for medical device development and fabrication of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Deep understanding of development approaches for effective execution of complex medical device programs.
  • Experience with electronics, PCB, and manufacturing techniques common to medical devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Technical leadership or program management experience in R&D and contract manufacturing projects.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical and electronics areas, including circuit calculations and simulations.
  • Expertise in analog and digital circuit design using tools like Altium Schematic Capture.
  • Strong background in hardware/software integration and debugging.
