About the position

Skyworks is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to join our innovative team in Greensboro, NC. In this role, you will be at the forefront of product development, engaging in all phases from product definition to production support. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in high-performance analog semiconductors, specifically focusing on front-end module design for the fast-paced cellular handset market. Your responsibilities will include driving the design of Power Amplifiers, RF switches, Low Noise Amplifiers, and acoustic filters, ensuring optimal module performance. You will collaborate with a multi-discipline team, interact directly with customers regarding specifications, and lead the floor-planning and design review processes. This position requires a strong understanding of RF/microwave fundamentals and hands-on experience in circuit design and simulation. You will also support new package technology development and drive methodologies to enhance design accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of product development, including product definition, architecture, system budget, and circuit design.
  • Drive front-end module design and collaborate with a multi-discipline team to develop PA, RF switches, LNA, and acoustic filters.
  • Interact directly with customers regarding Pin I/O, size, and performance specifications, providing suggestions and solutions.
  • Own floor-planning, including module pinouts, package size, signal flows, and link budget.
  • Lead new technology and architecture suggestions with comprehensive analysis.
  • Drive front-end module design methodologies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee module design reviews and tapeout processes.
  • Support new package technology development.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of RF/microwave fundamentals such as impedance matching, passive RLC circuits, noise, linearity, and circuit stability.
  • Solid understanding of module building blocks, including Power Amplifiers, Low Noise Amplifiers, RF Switches, and Filters.
  • Relevant experience in multi-chip module (MCM) design, PA, LNA, RF switch design, or passive circuit design.
  • Strong circuit simulation skills utilizing Agilent ADS and 2.5/3D EM tools such as ADS Momentum/EMX, HFSS, and Cadence.
  • Demonstrated lab skills in data collection, analysis, lab debug, tuning, and product troubleshooting.
  • Self-starter and team player with a strong commitment to taking products from concept to volume production.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of breaking down complex problems and executing to schedule.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with 3 years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good understanding of RF systems and familiarity with wireless standards including 3GPP cellular 2/3/4/5G/LTE, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth.
  • Solid understanding of device and process technologies.
  • Experience in system architecture, circuit topology, and MCM floorplan.
  • Experience in FEM product development and customer interaction.
  • Good understanding of acoustic filters such as SAW and BAW filters.
  • Experience in co-simulation of multiple technologies such as digital, analog, and RF circuits.
  • Familiarity with lab instruments including Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, RF Probe Stations, Noise Figure Analyzers, and Load-pull Tuners.
