About the position

The Staff Electronic Design Engineer will be a key member of the Future Programs team at Rivian, focusing on the electrical hardware design for next-generation electric vehicles. This role involves collaboration with various engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept to launch, ensuring the integration of innovative electrical systems into new vehicle models.

Responsibilities

  • Join a cross functional team with the mission of developing a new light electric vehicle product line.
  • Be the technically responsible individual for developing the electrical hardware, defining hardware and software enabled customer experience features and requirements.
  • Methodically work on transferring product level requirements to subsystem requirements, system block diagrams, and software functions.
  • Conduct circuit modeling and simulation, and perform worst case circuit analysis.
  • Engage in electrical design including component selection, schematic capture, and layout, while collaborating with PCBA fab houses and contract manufacturers to bring the hardware to mass production.
  • Develop test and validation plans to ensure the hardware meets safety, reliability, and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with controls and software peers to define and maintain high-level software functional descriptions and state diagrams.
  • Act as the point of contact between the team and other systems (such as System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software, Controls) within Rivian to achieve collaboration and efficiencies.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on system-level thinking and continual learning.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Experience in small to medium-sized organizations, providing exposure to a broad set of challenges across both EE hardware and software domains.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware and firmware features in electrical systems.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, high-performance electrical hardware for mass production.
  • Broad knowledge of common analog and digital circuits, MCUs, sensors, signal conditioning, control theory, and embedded software.
  • Experience with common embedded systems protocols and their hardware implementation (e.g., SPI, CAN, I2C, SENT).
  • Hands-on experience using lab equipment and working with Li-Ion batteries.
  • Basic experience in design for reliability principles and corresponding reliability testing.
  • Knowledge of EMI, EMC, electrical safety, and regulatory requirements for products in this class.
  • Accomplishments in taking new products through mass production launch.
  • Formal electrical engineering education, B.S. minimum, higher preferred.

Benefits

  • Robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
