About the position

The Staff Engineer at GEICO plays a crucial role in transforming the insurance business by transitioning from a traditional IT model to a tech-focused organization. This position emphasizes engineering excellence, psychological safety, and continuous improvement, while leading the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to enhance product delivery and engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and thought leadership across multiple areas of the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems.
  • Develop and execute a technical software development strategy for the Platform Engineering domain.
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
  • Mentor and coach engineering and product community members to strengthen technical expertise.
  • Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
  • Analyze costs and forecasts, incorporating them into business plans.
  • Support resource requirements and evaluate operational processes to ensure desired results.
  • Take on-call and operation support as needed.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Go programming language and advanced knowledge of at least one other OOP language (Python, Java, C#, etc.).
  • Deep hands-on experience in complex system design, data pipeline architectures, and performance tuning.
  • Good knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Advanced knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript preferred).
  • Familiarity with open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and No-SQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Experience in architecting and designing automation workflows and custom applications in BMC Helix platform.
  • Strong understanding of web service integration (REST/SOAP) and enterprise middleware integration.
  • Excellent communication skills for leading projects and interacting with clients.
  • Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code.
  • In-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of big data and streaming data pipeline architecture (Lambda/Kappa).
  • Experience with open-source tools like GIT, Jenkins, CircleCI, and knowledge of Terraform/Ansible.
  • Familiarity with ML and AI technologies.
  • Experience with open-source monitoring software like Grafana and Prometheus.
