About the position

The Staff Engineer - Hardware Engineering (Network Automation) at GEICO is a pivotal role focused on network engineering and automation, particularly with open-source network systems and cloud technologies. This position involves leading the design, development, and implementation of test plans and automation for network operating systems, ensuring the reliability and scalability of hardware infrastructure. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance hardware reliability and efficiency in data centers, contributing to the future of server infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Play a vital role in the network architectural strategy for product quality improvement.
  • Design, architect, and implement highly scalable test plans using industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain automated scripts for various testing types including functional, system, regression, performance, and security testing.
  • Create reusable automation tests and libraries to streamline test development.
  • Implement data-driven and parameterized testing strategies to maximize test coverage and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry innovations in network architecture and test infrastructure, leading advancements within the infrastructure.
  • Mentor other engineers and share best practices to improve processes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of Python script development experience and validating software-defined networking (SDN) solutions.
  • 8+ years of expert-level knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, STP, etc.
  • Experience with network programmability frameworks and APIs (e.g., NETCONF, RESTCONF, gRPC) for automation and orchestration.
  • Expertise in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting routing, switching, and security solutions.
  • Proficiency in network security concepts including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
  • Hands-on experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Linux.
  • Expertise in version control systems (e.g., git) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and strategic thinking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Network, Cloud, and Virtualization certifications are preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
  • 3+ years of experience with network and server systems architecture and design.
  • 3+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
