About the position

At Western Digital, we are seeking a Staff Engineer in Industrial Engineering to join our team. This role is pivotal in developing capacity planning models for Wafer FAB equipment requirements, which are essential for supporting mid-range R8Q and long-term LRP planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining long-term capacity and capital requirements to adapt to dynamic product volume mix changes and technology transitions. Continuous innovation and enhancement of the capacity planning system functionality will be a key focus, aimed at improving the capability and accuracy of models compared to real-world scenarios. Collaboration is crucial in this role, as you will work closely with the Process, Equipment, and Manufacturing engineering teams to identify operating efficiency losses. Implementing solutions to improve equipment Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and throughput for capital efficiency will be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will represent Western Digital in discussions with outside services, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to support these duties. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical skills, and effective communication to ensure that our capacity planning aligns with the company's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Capacity Planning models for Wafer FAB equipment requirement to support mid-range R8Q and long-term LRP planning
  • Define long-term Capacity/Capital requirement to meet a dynamic product volume mix changes and technology transition
  • Continuously innovate and enhance capacity planning system functionality to improve the capability and accuracy of model vs reality
  • Collaborate with Process/Equipment/Manufacturing engineering team to identify operating efficiency losses and implement solutions to improve equipment OEE and throughput for capital efficiency
  • Represent Western Digital in discussions with outside services, consultants, contractors, and suppliers, as needed, to support the above duties

Requirements

  • A four-year degree in Industrial Engineering & Operation Research and five years of related experience, or an advanced degree and 3 years of related experience, or equivalent industry experience and demonstrated successes
  • Expertise in managing Capital Request/Receipt/Depreciation and Capacity modeling for Wafer FAB
  • Expertise in APF, Spotfire, & Microsoft Office programs, especially MS Excel, Access, & PowerPoint
  • Physical ability to wear wafer fab cleanroom garments and remain in cleanroom environment for extended periods of time, for purpose of performing floor studies to support the above duties
  • Knowledge and application of proper wafer fab protocol, procedures and process flows is a plus
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to write clear analyses, reports and summaries that are easily accessible and understandable by management and peers
  • Ability to orally present analyses, reports and summaries at regularly scheduled and spontaneous meetings with peers and management
