About the position

As a Staff Engineer in Log Management at Datadog, you will lead high-priority projects focused on the design and architecture of distributed, scalable systems. This role involves providing technical leadership, collaborating with various teams, and driving initiatives to enhance platform resilience and performance. You will be responsible for making key technical decisions related to data ingestion, processing, and querying systems, while also mentoring other engineers and shaping new features across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
  • Provide technical leadership across several areas of the platform.
  • Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions that rely on distributed, high-throughput, real-time systems.
  • Collaborate closely with design partners, product managers, and platform engineering teams to quickly iterate on proof of concept capabilities.
  • Design and build highly resilient architectures.
  • Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning as well as contribute to both the product and engineering roadmaps.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in software engineering, particularly with large scale distributed systems.
  • Significant back-end programming experience with a focus on performance, cost efficiency, and resilience.
  • Experience leading large cross-team initiatives and impactful technical projects.
  • Ability to mentor and coach other engineers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud technologies and cybersecurity practices.
  • Familiarity with observability tools and practices.
