The Staff Engineer - ML Systems role at LinkedIn involves developing and training advanced machine learning models and algorithms to enhance personalized recommendations for members. The role emphasizes collaboration, technical leadership, and hands-on coding to implement scalable AI solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and train cutting-edge machine learning models and algorithms.
  • Work with big data for statistical modeling, data mining, and recommendation solutions.
  • Design system architecture and implement scalable data pipelines and services.
  • Write production-quality code and influence the next generation of LinkedIn's systems.
  • Collaborate with a team of 10+ machine learning engineers to deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Build scalable AI innovations with foundation and infrastructure partners.
  • Provide technical leadership to the team and drive cross-functional communication.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industry experience in system design, development, and algorithm-related solutions.
  • 4+ years of coding experience utilizing programming languages such as Java, Python, or Scala.
  • 4+ years of experience with data engineering, data infrastructure, and/or machine learning.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience building a large-scale online recommender system from end to end.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and deep learning models.
  • General experience with the training and deployment of ML models.
  • Hands-on experience with writing CUDA code and knowledge of GPU internals.
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with distributed systems development or distributed ML workloads.
