About the position

We are seeking a Staff Engineer Site Reliability to support our Digital Engineering teams working on Azure (AZ) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Distributed Systems. This position will be based in our Pleasanton, CA office, or one of our main corporate offices located in Plano, TX, Boise ID, or Deer Valley, CA. The salary range for this role is between $144,760 and $188,188 annually, with starting salaries varying based on location, experience, and qualifications. Exceptional candidates may be offered flexibility in salary. In this role, you will be an individual contributor within the Engineering Operations organization, specifically covering the Site Reliability Engineering work stream. You will be responsible for delivering projects related to the Observability product functions. This involves close collaboration with various teams, including Command Center Operations, Network Operations, Cloud Operations Group, Automation & Observability teams, and peer development team members. You will also engage with other cross-functional IT teams, business stakeholders, and leadership distributed across geographical locations. As a Staff Engineer, you will interpret internal or external issues and recommend solutions or best practices. You will set objectives and deliver results that directly impact the achievement of results within your job area. Your work will establish operational plans aimed at achieving objectives with a longer-term effect on business results. You will be recognized as a subject matter expert, responsible for designing and developing frameworks, scripting scenarios, and building utilities to enhance the framework.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects related to the Observability product functions.
  • Collaborate closely with Command Center Operations, Network Operations, Cloud Operations Group, Automation & Observability teams, and peer development team members.
  • Interpret internal or external issues and recommend solutions or best practices.
  • Set objectives and deliver results that impact the achievement of results within the job area.
  • Establish operational plans and work to achieve objectives with longer-term effects on business results.
  • Design and develop frameworks, scripting scenarios, and build utilities to customize and enhance the framework.

Requirements

  • 7 years of significant programming experience using various standard scripting languages and high-level programming languages.
  • Experience designing major systems and their subsystems.
  • Significant troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly diagnose complex production issues.
  • Significant experience with application servers (WebSphere, WebLogic, and/or JBoss) and database technologies (Oracle, DB2, UDB, and/or SQL Server).
  • Significant experience in UI/Web 2.0 Development (JavaScript, CSS, Ajax, Adobe Flash/Flex, Dojo, YUI, and/or JQuery).
  • Strong knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of current monitoring tools.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with at least one major cloud platform and Service Container/Instance concepts.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with querying and inspection techniques for service and other types of logs.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with basic NoSQL DB concepts and experience with querying information from the same.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Kafka concepts and health confirmation techniques.
  • Significant experience with the full software development lifecycle and software development methodologies (Agile).
  • Significant experience in capacity planning, systems performance analysis, and optimization in a distributed client/server environment.
  • Strong experience creating and maintaining application processes and documentation.
  • Understanding of network concepts and technologies.
  • Strong ability to understand client expectations and to resolve issues that may affect service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong ability to mentor, coach, and train other application support engineers.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to learn beyond formal training and a strong aptitude for delivering quality products.
