About the position

The Staff Engineer, Solution Architecture role at American Express involves leading a team of solution architects to support Global Commercial Services Technology. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic business acumen to map business processes to capabilities, ensuring the delivery of end-to-end solutions for prioritized features. The role emphasizes collaboration with product managers, business managers, and engineering leaders to translate business visions into actionable development roadmaps, while also managing solution architecture within an Agile framework.

Responsibilities

  • Run solution management cadence including partners (Product Development, Technology, and business teams) to identify needs, opportunities, and gaps, and solve problems
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and cross functional partners to deliver collaboratively
  • Consolidate and correlate disconnected business needs, processes and identify synergies to avoid redundant design and build
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the business process, drivers for change and recommend the right solution
  • Implement process improvements to streamline areas for your team such as hiring, onboarding, and internal/external communication
  • Recruit and retain solution architecture talent
  • Cultivate an environment of continuous improvement through technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, and feedback
  • Brainstorm and negotiate effectively with various stakeholders to continuously come up with best design

Requirements

  • 5+ years of solution architecture experience
  • A good balance of business acumen and technical knowledge with a proven track record of driving digital innovation and architecture with a customer-first mindset
  • Experience partnering cross functionally and being a hands-on leader to drive successful execution
  • Understanding of the evolving compliance and regulatory requirements and environment and how to incorporate technology, infrastructure and security requirements into the product design
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners to drive collaboration and alignment
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative and personal accountability
  • An ability to solve complex problems and a highly analytical approach
  • 7+ years in agile product development and delivery
