About the position

At GE Aerospace, we are advancing aviation technologies for today and tomorrow. The Staff Engineer - Turbine Systems Test Specialist will play a crucial role in the LM6000 engine line, which is an industrial and marine variant of the aircraft engine CF6-80C2, modified to power oil & gas and electrical applications. This position involves being the engineering leader for LM6000 programs, focusing on new product introduction, cost reduction, reliability improvements, engine delivery, and root cause investigations of field issues. In this role, you will establish requirements and develop engineering plans to substantiate design changes to meet these requirements. You will lead engineering teams through execution, ensuring effective integration at the engine level and maintaining clear communication with customers. Each product validation effort is unique, providing opportunities to broaden your expertise in various areas. You will actively drive technical excellence and learning throughout the organization, addressing production engine issues by determining root causes and implementing containment strategies. Your responsibilities will also include developing expertise around unique design differences that arise from our niche market, supporting engine assembly by resolving technical issues promptly, and documenting instrumentation requirements for engine testing. Additionally, you will develop and execute overall engine test plans, own production engine test requirements documents, and lead cost reduction strategies by driving necessary design changes. Utilizing LEAN tools, you will enhance the engineering team's capabilities to meet key metrics while ensuring adherence to GE's engineering standards and Toll Gate processes. You will also provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues, effectively communicating technical data and recommendations to internal and external GE customers.

Responsibilities

  • Actively drive technical excellence and learning throughout the organization
  • Drive root cause and containment for production engine issues
  • Develop expertise around unique design differences that have originated from our niche market
  • Support engine assembly by quickly resolving technical issues
  • Determine and document instrumentation requirements for engine
  • Develop and execute overall engine test plans
  • Own production engine test requirements documents
  • Lead cost reduction strategy and drive design changes as required to realize cost reduction
  • Use LEAN toolset to improve our engineering team's talent and ability to meet key metrics
  • Ensure proper use of engineering standard tools and adherence to GE Toll Gate process
  • Support other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required
  • Support Product Line and Design Team to ensure rapid resolution of quality and delivery issues
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in advanced engine design or engine systems integration
  • 5 years of experience in an engineering position
  • Systems Engineering experience with Gas Turbine Engines (GTE)
  • Engine test experience with GTEs
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage projects and operational processes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
