About the position

The Staff Engineer at Terracon Consultants, Inc. is responsible for providing engineering and consulting services across various projects and sectors. This role involves leading field investigations, performing engineering analyses, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. The engineer will also prepare proposals, cost estimates, and reports while collaborating with project teams and clients to address design and construction challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients.
  • Perform and/or lead field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations.
  • Design and develop plans and specifications, and conduct observation and inspection.
  • Write, prepare, and review related reports for the services provided.
  • Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, and recommend changes.
  • Research and resolve design and construction problems.
  • Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Assist in developing the scope of work for routine projects.
  • Analyze data and perform engineering calculations and analysis for PE review.
  • Conduct, coordinate, or supervise field investigations and laboratory testing.
  • Develop plans, schedules, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Work closely with senior-level project manager and Professional Engineer of Record.
  • Make design recommendations for review by the Professional Engineer of Record.
  • Prepare work scope, proposals, and reports for approval by senior-level professionals.
  • May supervise field staff including graduate/field engineers and engineering technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience in engineering.
  • Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
