About the position

The Staff Environmental Engineer - Remediation at Burns & McDonnell will support environmental investigation and remediation projects across various sectors, including electrical utility, solid waste, mining, and renewable energy. This role involves utilizing advanced technology in the remediation industry and requires experience in environmental site assessments, remediation system design, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Support preparation of environmental investigation work plans, reports, feasibility studies, etc.
  • Perform safety, project and task management duties on environmental projects.
  • Solicit and contract subcontractors, schedule, and manage field activities involving staff and subcontractors.
  • Guide environmental site assessments in the field, including subsurface soil and groundwater sampling, air and vapor monitoring, and monitoring well installation.
  • Assist in remediation system design, installation, and operation, including in-situ remedies and recovery and treatment systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams to complete and review projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related professional experience required (6 years strongly preferred) in environmental investigations and remedial actions.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in environmental field monitoring activities, including collecting soil and groundwater samples and conducting hydrogeologic investigations.
  • Experience in supporting remedial actions, including emergency response and waste management.
  • Strong technical report writing and data analysis skills.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (and annual updates) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team framework.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous consulting experience.
  • Experience investigating coal combustion residuals (CCR) at regulated facilities.
  • Experience working on projects with emerging contaminants of concern including PFAS and PFOA.
  • Proficiency navigating regulations and knowledge of State and/or Federal regulations in the upper Midwest.
