About the position

H2M Architects + Engineers is seeking a Staff Environmental Planner to join their Melville, NY office. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Planner, assisting with various environmental planning projects. The role requires a self-starter who can efficiently complete tasks under time constraints while continuously developing their planning knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of SEQRA documents including Environmental Assessment Forms and Environmental Impact Statements
  • Management of technical impact analysis including analysis and assessment of information prepared by others for presentation in SEQRA documents
  • Conducting technical research, technical writing, and environmental analysis
  • Specialized knowledge of SEQR disciplines including natural resources, land use planning, or transportation
  • Strategizing, developing, and managing planning processes
  • Developing and implementing project plans to ensure legal compliance
  • Presenting project ideas to individuals and groups
  • Preparing, reviewing, and interpreting maps, aerial photos, data, and field investigation reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Environmental Science, Geology, Urban Planning, Engineering or related discipline from an accredited program
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental planning or closely related field
  • Working knowledge of local implementation of SEQRA, NEPA, CEQR
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and convey ideas among the team
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to create budgets, develop project plans and schedules
  • Familiarity with DEC Policies for Noise, Visual, GHG assessments
  • Tidal and freshwater wetlands delineation certification
  • AICP Licensure
