About the position

The Staff Geophysicist, Geoscientist, Hydrologist, or Engineer position at RMA involves working within the hydroGEOPHYSICS division in Tucson, AZ. This entry-level role focuses on assisting scientists and engineers with data collection, analysis, and report writing, while also engaging in fieldwork that requires extensive travel. The position is integral to providing geophysical services across various industries, including mining, nuclear, engineering, and environmental sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist scientists and engineers with data collection, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Work outdoors with uneven terrain while carrying heavy equipment (50+ lbs).
  • Problem solve and make temporary in-field repairs as needed.
  • Load and unload equipment for field projects.
  • Transport vehicles and equipment to and from field projects.
  • Set up, tear down, and maintain field monitoring equipment.
  • Provide field support as directed by project lead.
  • Organize and maintain field equipment according to company procedures.
  • Perform general office support when not in the field.
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Geosciences, Geology, or Earth Science related Engineering discipline with 2-4 years of applied experience, or a Master's degree in a related field with little to no experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with schedule flexibility.
  • Enjoy travel (up to 70% travel required) and working outdoors with complex scientific equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Current passport or ability to secure one within 90 days of hire.
  • Proof of US citizenship due to government contract requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with geophysical fieldwork and data collection.
  • Proficiency in electrical, seismic, and electromagnetic methods.
  • Professional Geophysicist (PGP) or Professional Geologist (PG) certification, or willingness to pursue.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking skills.
  • Experience driving a vehicle/trailer combination.
  • MSHA/OSHA/Hazwoper training.
