About the position

The Staff Geotechnical Engineer - Marine at Fugro is responsible for providing engineering and geoscience advice in specialized technical disciplines related to offshore energy development. This role involves both offshore and onshore work, focusing on collecting and interpreting geotechnical data to develop engineering design parameters. The position emphasizes quality, health, safety, and environmental protection while leading a team in geotechnical investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in prioritizing Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and environmental protection.
  • Work offshore approximately 40% of the time on geotechnical and geophysical vessels for periods of 2 to 6 weeks.
  • Collect geotechnical data, seabed soil and rock samples, and perform in situ testing using marine coring and penetration tools.
  • Perform offshore core logging to classify seabed soil and rock samples and conduct basic index and strength testing on collected samples.
  • Package and store offshore samples for transport to onshore laboratory testing facilities.
  • Guide and oversee junior engineers and field technicians in seabed sampling and testing, identifying training needs.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on offshore geotechnical testing and data processing.
  • Assist the Site Manager in planning and managing field data acquisition activities.
  • Produce daily field reports and communicate progress to client representatives.
  • Support proposal preparation, data interpretation, and engineering reporting while onshore.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 1 or more years of geotechnical marine investigation experience.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical laboratory testing in an offshore environment.
  • Basic understanding of soil mechanics related to soil and rock classification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn job-specific software quickly.
  • Ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
