About the position

Supermicro® is seeking a Staff Hardware Design Engineer who will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing DC-DC power conversion systems specifically for X86 or GPU servers. This position requires a deep understanding of power electronics and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure that power systems meet stringent performance, efficiency, and reliability standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and optimizing DC-DC power conversion systems, which includes designing multiphase converters and other essential components such as LDOs, POLs, load switches, hot-swaps, and e-fuses. The role also involves selecting components that optimize performance and solutions for X86 servers. In addition to design responsibilities, the Staff Hardware Design Engineer will engage in system integration, collaborating closely with hardware and software teams to effectively integrate power systems into server architectures. This includes conducting rigorous testing and validation of power systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards. The engineer will also be tasked with diagnosing and resolving issues related to power systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance. Maintaining detailed documentation of designs, test results, and troubleshooting procedures is essential, as is staying updated with the latest advancements in power electronics to implement innovative solutions that enhance system performance. This position requires regular in-office attendance, emphasizing the importance of in-person collaboration and participation in team meetings, training sessions, and other on-site activities. Candidates should be prepared to fulfill their responsibilities in the designated office location, considering commuting distances and the need for consistent presence during standard working hours as determined by the company.

Responsibilities

  • Create and optimize DC-DC power conversion systems for X86 or GPU servers.
  • Design DC/DC multiphase converters with experience in both analog and digital VRM solutions.
  • Design LDOs, POLs, load switches, hot-swaps, e-fuses, and multiphase converters for X86 servers.
  • Select components for optimized performance and solutions.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate power systems into server architectures.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of power systems to ensure they meet design specifications and industry standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to power systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test results, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in power electronics and implement innovative solutions to improve system performance.

Requirements

  • BSEE with 10+ years or MSEE with 8+ years of experience in power electronics, focusing on DC-DC power converters.
  • Hands-on experience with high power (1KW+) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using VR validation tools, such as Intel VRTT or AMD Stardust, for system validation and tuning VR designs to meet various design specifications or targets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and document technical information.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
