About the position

At Lucid, we are committed to leading the future of luxury electric vehicles, and we are seeking a Staff Test Automation Engineer to join our Powertrain Engineering and Development (PDE) team. This role is pivotal in supporting the design, documentation, integration, and maintenance of automated test equipment for our automotive products and systems. As a subject matter expert, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our test equipment software and hardware design meets the rigorous testing and coverage requirements necessary for our innovative vehicles. You will be responsible for defining the complete test system architecture and developing large-scale software applications for a variety of end products, all while working in a collaborative small team environment focused on building and maintaining a reusable test software base. In this position, you will lead the design, development, testing, validation, and maintenance of software that meets the requirements of our test equipment, ensuring traceability to customer system specifications and software detail specifications. You will also have the opportunity to teach, train, and mentor a small team of test software developers, advancing the development of a reusable and configurable standard software architecture. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing custom tools and automated test equipment to be installed in our research and manufacturing units for powertrain functional teams. You will utilize various industry-standard tools such as NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, NI Veristand, Python, Arduino, MATLAB, and PLC programming to develop test applications. Additionally, you will work with a range of test equipment, including data acquisition systems, converters, chambers, conditioning systems, power supplies, loads, transducers, and I/O devices, to meet our testing requirements. You will be responsible for setting up manual and automated test systems based on specific test requirements, maintaining and troubleshooting any issues that arise. Collaboration with multiple teams will be essential to ensure timely project delivery, and you will be tasked with developing and maintaining comprehensive test documentation, plans, procedures, and reports. Following established standards and best practices will be critical to delivering high-quality products, and you will troubleshoot complex issues related to software, hardware, systems, or products to determine root causes and corrective actions. Effective communication of technical issues, both written and verbal, will be a key aspect of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, design, develop, test, validate, and maintain software to meet test equipment requirements that are traceable to customer system specifications and software detail specifications for various types of specialized automated test equipment.
  • Teach, train, and mentor a small team of test software developers.
  • Maintain and advance the development of a reusable and configurable standard software architecture.
  • Design and develop Custom Tool, Automated Test Equipment (ATE) etc., to install in research & manufacturing unit for powertrain functional teams.
  • Develop Test Applications using various industry standard tools (i.e. NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, NI Veristand, Python, Arduino, MATLAB, PLC Programming, robot programming & other test automation software tools).
  • Work with test equipment such as data acquisition systems, converters, chambers, conditioning systems, power supplies, loads, transducers, I/O devices, and other instruments to meet requirements.
  • Make bench setup for manual test & automated test system based on test requirements, maintain & troubleshoot if any issues.
  • Collaborate with multiple other teams to deliver the projects on time.
  • Develop and maintain test documentation, plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Follow standards, guidelines, best practices to deliver quality products.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues that may be software, hardware, system, or product related to determine root cause and corrective action.
  • Communicate technical issues through written or verbal means.

Requirements

  • 12+ years' experience with bachelor's degree or 10+ years and master's degree.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical & electronics circuits and components.
  • Ability to study & understand electrical & electronic schematic & layout.
  • Exposure to electrical test equipment including but not limited to power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers etc.
  • Experience in communication protocols like Automotive Ethernet, CAN, LIN etc.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD Electrical, or similar, electrical CAD software.
  • Experienced/Understanding in Functional Testing, Reliability Testing, End of Line Testing etc.
  • Strong Experience in software & hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive.
  • Good verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • National Instruments Certified LabView Architect (CLA)
  • EV Test Experience.
  • Experience in custom PCB design to integrate with test system.
  • Knowledge of safety and EMI requirements related to high power applications.
  • Familiar with fabrication, assembly of fixtures and wiring.
  • Hands-on experience in an engineering prototype, fabrication and/or machine shop environment with demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Able to function at a high level with multiple tasks and projects, and to effectively change direction based upon business needs.
  • Knowledge in processes like GR&R, Cpk etc.
