About the position

Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a Staff Integration & Development Test Engineer to join our cohesive team of professional problem solvers in Kirkland, WA. The primary objective of this role is to support the design, development, and testing of innovative aircraft Power Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and revising complex system integration and development test procedures, performing intricate tests, and documenting results from both lab and aircraft testing. This position requires a strong technical background and the ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems that necessitate an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, often utilizing test data and specification requirements. In this role, you will prepare and review custom test equipment drawings and designs, coordinate and track the formal test equipment drawing release process, and support less experienced engineers in custom test equipment design. You will also be tasked with organizing and analyzing data, ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of results, and performing system integration and development testing using both custom and standard lab test equipment. The position involves defining standard and custom test equipment to support problem discovery, integration projects, and development projects. Additionally, you will prepare and present complex technical information to internal and external engineers, program personnel, and other stakeholders. Guiding technicians and engineers in performing system integration and unit-level development tests, as well as custom test equipment builds, will also be part of your responsibilities. You will support the selection and provide guidance on external suppliers of test equipment, develop software programs, and utilize computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electronic products and systems. The role also includes supporting system, environmental, and electromagnetic interference testing of aircraft electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment, as well as preparing and reviewing system and unit-level test procedures and reports for these systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise complex system integration and development test procedures.
  • Perform complex tests and document results from lab and aircraft testing.
  • Prepare and review custom test equipment drawings and designs.
  • Coordinate and track formal test equipment drawing release process.
  • Support less experienced engineers on custom test equipment design.
  • Analyze and solve complex technical problems that require in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Organize and analyze data and document results using a variety of data plotting and analysis tools.
  • Review results to ensure their accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Perform system integration and development testing and troubleshooting using custom test equipment and standard lab test equipment.
  • Define standard and custom test equipment to support problem discovery and isolation.
  • Prepare and present complex technical information for internal and external engineers and program personnel.
  • Guide technicians and engineers in performing system integration and unit level development test and custom test equipment builds.
  • Support selection and provide guidance and review of external suppliers of test equipment.
  • Develop software programs and use computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electronic products and systems.
  • Support system, environmental and electromagnetic interference testing of aircraft electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment.
  • Prepare and review system and unit level test procedures and reports for aircraft electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment.
  • Support DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461 testing on aerospace electrical power equipment.
  • Develop and review development and qualification test procedures for environmental and EMI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or related technical discipline required.
  • Typically requires 8 or more years of direct experience in the duties & responsibilities of the position.
