About the position

The Interior Designer/Space Planner will play a crucial role in preparing designs, editing specifications, and conceptual estimates for interior work, repair, and renovation projects related to government, airport, and commercial facilities. This position is responsible for creating, designing, and implementing comprehensive interior design and space planning strategies that ensure a seamless flow throughout the project lifecycle. The designer will prepare detailed designs, perform quantity calculations, and produce diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings specifically tailored for aviation and federal facilities. In addition to design preparation, the Interior Designer/Space Planner will compile data and provide elementary design computations, assisting in the development of internal design plans and renderings. A significant aspect of this role includes furniture purchasing and reconfiguration, ensuring that all selections align with the overall design vision. The designer will also conduct thorough research on interior design products, making informed recommendations based on current trends and standards. This includes selecting appropriate colors, finishes, and materials that enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of the spaces being designed. The position requires the designer to lead construction administration activities, which involve conducting site visits and reviewing project schedules to ensure that all work is progressing according to plan. Maintaining compliance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes is essential. The designer must adhere to all company policies and standards while performing other duties as assigned, contributing to a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs, quantity calculations, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings for interiors of aviation and federal facilities.
  • Compile data and provide elementary design computations.
  • Assist with the preparation of internal design plans and renderings.
  • Manage furniture purchasing and reconfiguration.
  • Research interior design products and make recommendations.
  • Develop and select color, finish, and materials for projects.
  • Recommend new ideas, formulas, and methods for design improvement.
  • Lead construction administration activities through site visits and schedule reviews.
  • Ensure conformance with building standards, architectural practices, and applicable building codes.
  • Comply with all company policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a similar field is required (CIDA accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design is highly preferred).
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in Interior Design or a similar field of study.
  • National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ Certification) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Revit and other 3-D visualization software such as Enscape and/or Lumion.
  • Knowledge of Interior Design specifications, calculations, and industry standards.
  • Expertise in using computers for architectural drawings, calculations, and 3-D visual simulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural principles and theory associated with project design and construction document production.
