About the position

The Staff Java Developer will lead a team of contractors within the Store Systems department, focusing on the checkout systems, particularly self-checkout. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills, with an emphasis on mentoring team members and making architectural decisions. The developer will be hands-on in coding while also overseeing the performance and development of the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of contractors in the Store Systems department.
• Support and oversee the software that runs in stores, specifically focusing on checkout systems.
• Conduct mentoring, code reviews, and performance conversations for team members.
• Make architectural decisions regarding existing systems and future developments.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively within an agile environment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of Java experience.
• Experience leading team members (ideally at least 5+) including mentoring, code reviews, and performance conversations.
• Architectural experience to make decisions regarding existing architecture.
• Hands-on coding experience in addition to leadership responsibilities.
• Experience in retail, e-commerce, payment, or checkout systems.
• Expertise in Spring Boot framework.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform or similar cloud services.
• Expertise in Kubernetes and cloud concepts.
• Heavy experience in payments, checkout, and POS systems.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate within an agile environment.
• Proactive nature to drive projects forward.
