About the position

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer for GenAI at Etsy will play a pivotal role in shaping the platform's vision and strategy for Generative AI capabilities. This position involves leveraging large language models (LLMs) to enhance the user experience for nearly 100 million buyers and over 5 million sellers on Etsy's marketplace. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic thinking to drive business-critical metrics and implement innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop sophisticated applications leveraging LLMs to tackle challenging tasks.
• Create systems based on well-architected framework principles.
• Define and own the roadmap, collaborating with senior engineers and partner teams.
• Design and develop reusable distributed components (services, libraries, SDKs) for LLM capabilities.
• Act as a consultant for partner teams on the best use of LLMs for their use cases.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve LLM development velocity and capabilities.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience in designing and supporting machine learning platforms and services.
• Experience with LLMs, including fine-tuning and evaluation.
• Strong track record with machine learning systems and platforms.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala; C++ is optional.
• Experience with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spark, Airflow, and KFP.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Terraform, GCP, AWS, and monitoring tools.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
