About the position

The Staff Mechanical Designer will engage in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and the creation of proposal and construction documentation and mechanical plans. This role involves working on a diverse portfolio of projects and clients, utilizing advanced design software and techniques to produce high-quality engineering drawings and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planning, site evaluations, and analytical designs as part of a project team.
  • Prepare specifications and construction documentation for mechanical plans.
  • Produce complete PFDs and P&IDs from verbal or written descriptions from design engineers.
  • Plan and develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis and design layout.
  • Execute changes to designs or sketches based on ongoing project requirements.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects effectively.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Compute calculations for layouts, equipment, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ensure project drawings and related information are stored logically and structured properly.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal forms regarding project coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field with 7 years of related experience, or an Associate Degree with 8 years of related experience, or 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
  • Advanced understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the aviation or federal sectors.
  • Familiarity with design codes and specifications related to mechanical design.
