About the position

The Staff ML Engineer at Xero will lead the design and development of AI research and production infrastructure, ensuring scalability and flexibility for research teams. This role involves managing technical debt and costs, solving complex problems, and enhancing data quality and usability across the organization. The engineer will also contribute to building Xero's market profile through public content and events, while collaborating with a diverse team to deliver impactful AI and ML products.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design of AI research and production infrastructure and services.
  • Owning the strategy for managing technical debt and costs across the stack.
  • Ensuring the right problems are solved with appropriate methods.
  • Sharing knowledge and elevating the capabilities of the AI Products team.
  • Collaborating with teams to improve data quality and usability.
  • Building Xero's market profile through public content and events.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience delivering ML and AI products at scale.
  • Strong coding and system design skills in Python or another language used in web scale data and AI applications.
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of distributed processing (data, ML, etc).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical concepts to stakeholders.
  • Experience developing standards and mentoring early career ML engineers.

  • Familiarity with Tensorflow.
