About the position

The Staff Nurse III at the Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients, functioning independently as a practitioner. This role requires superior problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to coordinate patient care and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. The position involves direct patient care, clinical consultation, and oversight of nursing staff, ensuring quality patient care and efficient resource utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients as per the functions of Staff Nurse II.
  • Demonstrate superior problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed.
  • Act as a technical expert and resource for nursing unit staff.
  • Coordinate unit-level quality management and performance improvement activities.
  • Initiate processes to resolve clinical problems and monitor care effectiveness.
  • Coordinate assignment, unit staffing, and scheduling based on established standards.
  • Facilitate optimal utilization of resources to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure discharge planning occurs in collaboration with case management.
  • Function as a clinical coach and resource for other clinical coaches and preceptors.
  • Participate in planning orientation and development of staff.
  • Support consistent regulatory readiness for the unit/area.
  • Respond to unit and area level operations issues as a charge nurse and shift coordinator.
  • Participate in the evaluation of staff and support their development.
  • Coordinate special programs within the area of expertise as delegated.
  • Participate on committees to represent the area or nursing practice.

Requirements

  • Current Indiana License as a Registered Nurse
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited college or university
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse
  • BSN preferred
