About the position

The Staff Operations and Training Specialist position within the Department of Defense is a critical role that involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the training and operational capabilities of the U.S. Army Reserve. The specialist will be tasked with preparing and submitting data for budget formulation, which is essential for ensuring that training programs are adequately funded and resourced. The development of mobilization training plans is another key responsibility, requiring collaboration with senior leadership to ensure that training aligns with operational needs. The specialist will also prepare guidance on operation and training activities to ensure compliance with training quota requirements, which is vital for maintaining readiness and effectiveness within the Army Reserve. This position is not only about managing training programs but also involves a significant amount of analytical work, as the specialist will analyze data to determine training budgets and make informed recommendations. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit data for budget formulation
  • Recommend final decision on expenditure requests
  • Advise senior leadership on use of automated training systems
  • Evaluate training plans and schedules to develop the Commands training program
  • Conduct inspections or reviews to evaluate training operations
  • Develop mobilization training plans for approval by senior leadership
  • Prepare guidance on operation and training activities to ensure compliance with training quota requirements

Requirements

  • Active membership as a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) is required
  • One year of specialized experience in preparing guidance on training, developing training programs, conducting inspections, advising on automated training systems, analyzing data for training budgets, and making budget decisions
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in relevant fields such as Organizational Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or Management
  • Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify, with a total of 100% required
