About the position
The position is responsible for the timely and accurate verification of all medication orders and safely prepares medications and other pharmaceuticals for dispensing to patients of BMC, its clinics, and all eligible employees. The role involves researching, educating, and communicating drug information to physicians, house staff, nurses, other healthcare providers, and patients/families. The individual must be knowledgeable of the automated medication dispensing process/reports and adhere to all applicable departmental and hospital policies/procedures.
Responsibilities
- Verify medication orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare medications and pharmaceuticals for dispensing to patients.
- Research and communicate drug information to healthcare providers and patients.
- Educate staff and patients on medication-related inquiries.
- Adhere to departmental and hospital policies and procedures regarding medication dispensing.
Requirements
- One to two years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Experience with computer operations and unit dose drug dispensing systems.
- IV admixture and parenteral chemotherapy admixture experience preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Licensed MA Pharmacist (MAPHARM).
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Capability to supervise the work of support personnel.
