About the position

As a Staff Product Designer for the Gusto Pro team, you will lead the experience direction for a product area within Gusto Pro. This role involves engaging in the entire product development process, from research to vision creation and experience iteration for launch. You will have significant influence over strategy at both the team and project levels, focusing on customer-driven design and informed decision-making based on research and data.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional partners in Product Management, Engineering, and Data Science to understand customer problems and define both long-term UX vision and short-term releases.
  • Collaborate with Research, Data Science, and Customer Support teams to build a holistic understanding of customer needs and share insights with your teams.
  • Advocate for great UX and inspire teams with a strong point of view about what's possible for your product area.
  • Maintain high standards for customer experience, partnering with engineering to ensure releases are bug-free, performant, accessible, and responsive.
  • Design experiences that fit into the overall system and advocate for cohesive experiences using the Design System and platform capabilities.
  • Communicate design tradeoffs and the rationale behind decisions in an understandable way for non-designers.
  • Provide and seek feedback from other designers to enhance quality and drive team-wide impact through mentorship.

Requirements

  • 8+ years' Product Design experience.
  • Experience designing end-to-end customer journeys from software to service.
  • Strong understanding of common web patterns and the ability to discern when to innovate versus adopt existing standards.
  • Ability to engage in constructive debates about scope and tradeoffs to build alignment and unblock work.
  • Strong UX craft with the ability to break down complex experiences and design with consideration for all touchpoints.
  • Ability to embrace ambiguous situations as opportunities to create.
  • Passion for Gusto's mission and the impact on the world.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity-based compensation.
  • Cash compensation range of $139,000/yr to $199,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $179,000/yr to $221,000/yr in Seattle, San Francisco & New York.
