About the position

Netflix is seeking a Staff Product Designer for the Member Experience team, focusing on personalization. This role is pivotal in designing the core member experience worldwide, ensuring that users can discover and connect with content that resonates with their preferences. The designer will work on defining app architecture and user experience frameworks, prioritizing personalized content discovery, and leveraging human-centered AI to enhance the member experience. The position is remote but aligned with Pacific Standard Time hours, with a preference for candidates who can work in a hybrid model from Los Gatos, CA. The Staff Product Designer will lead innovative product design initiatives that have a demonstrable impact on a global scale. This involves using a full range of interaction, visual, and product-thinking skills to own product features. The designer will balance a passion for AI with a strong desire to understand user behavior and business success. Responsibilities include switching between high-level vision and hands-on design work, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and pushing the user experience further with emerging technologies. The role requires a deep understanding of user preferences and the ability to create personalized experiences that are elegantly simple. The designer will drive a human-centered design process, communicate design rationale to stakeholders, and contribute to strategic decisions regarding AI-powered personalized member experiences. Collaboration with teams across consumer research, data science, product management, merchandising, and engineering is essential to test, iterate, and launch features that connect members with the best content. The ideal candidate will have a track record of designing and shipping products, navigating ambiguity, and driving clarity in user experience, technology, and business alignment. Excellent communication skills are necessary to articulate design decisions and present work to broader teams and leaders. An insatiable curiosity for user experiences powered by AI, machine learning, and recommendation systems is also crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and define personalized experiences and create elegantly simple solutions to complex problems related to areas like identity and preferences.
  • Drive a human-centered design process for defining and executing features from concept to launch.
  • Clearly communicate design rationale and iterations to partners and stakeholders.
  • Articulate a vision and contribute to strategic decisions around the future direction of AI-powered personalized member experiences.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to test, iterate, and launch features that connect members with content.
  • Provide systems thinking for large-scale modular design systems, both strategically and tactically.
  • Employ storytelling to present a vision and create a shared understanding of the UX strategy.
  • Champion our members and a global-first mindset.
  • Give and solicit feedback to continually raise the bar for quality and craft.
  • Embrace a culture of experimentation and A/B testing.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing user experiences for consumer-facing products across mobile, web, and/or TV.
  • Experience designing and shipping AI / GenAI products.
  • Understanding of the intersection of User Experience and AI.
  • Excellence in interaction design, visual design, and prototyping skills.
  • Ability to think at a high level about product strategy and articulate a vision.
  • Track record of designing and shipping products and leading projects to successful outcomes for global users.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity that brings the user, technology, and business together.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
