About the position

The Staff Product Designer will play a crucial role in shaping the user experience for Contentful's new product, Studio, which enables digital teams to create visual experiences at scale. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product and engineering managers, to drive UX from discovery through delivery. The role is hybrid, requiring in-person collaboration in downtown Denver at least once a week, and offers an opportunity to contribute to a young and dynamic product development team.

Responsibilities

  • Translate strategy into a structured design process and assist in requirements definition.
  • Lead design projects by crafting and delivering best-in-class UX, UI, and interaction design documentation.
  • Partner with product managers and engineering leads to identify and define impactful problems based on user-centered research and analysis.
  • Collaborate with design system designers to enhance Studio's use of Contentful's open-source design system.
  • Ensure quality of output through proactive involvement.
  • Build iteratively and experiment to grow a new product.
  • Conduct primary research, including in-depth interviews and usability testing, to understand customer needs and challenges.
  • Create design archetypes such as customer journeys, system maps, user flows, prototypes, and UX copy.
  • Facilitate team discovery workshops and align the team on opportunities.
  • Participate in critiques and provide mentorship to other designers.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in product design.
  • Excellence in UI and visual product design skills.
  • Strategic UX thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-starter, organized, and driven.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguities and making bold decisions.
  • Experience working in a global company with US and EU offices.
  • Proven ability to create alignment on cross-team product challenges.
  • Strong conceptual skills for designing complex scenarios.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in engaging with company leadership.
  • Proficiency in meeting and workshop facilitation.
  • Experience with design systems and knowledge of interaction patterns.
  • Experience in running user research and testing activities.
  • Experience in growing products from 0 to 1 is a plus.
