About the position

As a Staff Product Manager - Technical at Databricks, you will play a pivotal role in collaborating with other product managers and technical field teams to ensure that the product features we design and ship provide the best user experiences while meeting the highest performance requirements. This challenging position requires you to measure both the functional and non-functional capabilities of our customers' workloads and the technologies they employ to address them. Equipped with this analysis, you will meticulously examine the experience of fulfilling these workloads on Databricks and detail the product improvements we can implement to enhance the simplicity and power of our platform. In this role, you will act as a bridge between the technical field teams and the product and engineering teams. You will ensure that the experiences of the technical field teams, particularly during Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and solution implementations, inform our product decisions. Additionally, you will be responsible for effectively presenting product improvements to the field, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed. Your impact will be significant as you leverage your technical and product expertise to identify and determine necessary product improvements. You will establish and help run performance benchmarks, prioritize impactful product roadmaps, and guide the product to market while facilitating its adoption among users. This role is essential in driving the success of Databricks' offerings and ensuring that we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers and technical field teams to design and ship product features that enhance user experience.
  • Measure functional and non-functional capabilities of customer workloads and technologies.
  • Analyze the experience of fulfilling workloads on Databricks and identify product improvements.
  • Act as a liaison between technical field teams and product/engineering teams.
  • Ensure technical field teams' experiences inform product decisions and improvements.
  • Establish and run performance benchmarks for product evaluation.
  • Prioritize and work on an impactful product roadmap.
  • Guide the product to market and support its adoption.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical product management role.
  • Strong hands-on technical background, particularly in data governance and management.
  • Domain expertise in open table formats such as Delta, Iceberg, and Hudi.
  • Experience analyzing and quantifying technology capabilities at a deep level.
  • Proficiency in writing Python and SQL.
  • Experience with systems design and architecture.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both product and technical teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data engineering, data analysis, and data science.
  • Familiarity with performance benchmarking tools and methodologies.
