About the position

CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Staff Project Planner to join the High Voltage and System Operations Team in Houston, TX. This role is crucial for ensuring project construction readiness, work planning, and management reporting for the timely completion of transmission line construction projects. The planner will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop implementation plans, manage project schedules, and ensure that all aspects of project readiness are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction readiness reviews for timely transition from conceptual development to construction.
  • Develop project construction readiness implementation plans including readiness analysis, activities, and reporting.
  • Conduct activity mapping and task identification reviews with stakeholders using GIS data systems and facility maps.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify desired outcomes and project deliverables.
  • Meet with project team members to determine project scopes of work and schedules.
  • Work with Business Analysts on project budgets and work estimates.
  • Build and maintain project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project Professional software.
  • Perform field inspections to ensure on-time performance of task schedules.
  • Manage project forecasting and monitor pre-construction activities, preparing readiness reports and establishing metrics for timely work progress.
  • Analyze monthly schedule progress deviations and determine critical path exceptions.
  • Keep management informed on project readiness status through reports and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or related field is required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of applicable work experience in project scheduling, construction management, or operations in a corporate or electric utility environment.
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project Professional software is required.
  • A Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience; a Ph.D. may substitute for up to an additional year of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GIS data systems and aerial photography.
  • Familiarity with construction operations in an electric utility environment.
