About the position

The Staff Psychiatrist at UC Irvine provides direct outpatient psychiatric care, including consultations and facilitating hospitalizations. This role ensures the quality, accessibility, and safety of mental health services for students, while also consulting with other health center clinicians and campus staff on mental health issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct outpatient psychiatric care to students.
• Conduct psychiatric consultations and facilitate hospitalizations as needed.
• Ensure continuous quality and safety of mental health services.
• Report any issues impacting patient care to the Chief of Psychiatry or leadership delegate.
• Consult with other clinicians and campus staff on mental health issues and emergencies.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited medical school and completion of Psychiatry Residency at an ACGME-accredited program.
• Current license to practice medicine in California.
• Board Certification in Psychiatry.
• Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification.
• Knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment principles, especially for college/university populations.
• Understanding of HIPAA, FERPA, CMIA, and patient privacy issues.
• Skills in diagnostic evaluation and sensitivity to diversity issues.
• Knowledge of issues relevant to youth and college-age adults, including substance use and eating disorders.

Nice-to-haves

• 3-5 years of direct patient care experience post-residency.
• Ability to work in a systems-of-care model.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric treatment for early adolescents and transitional age youth.
• Prior experience with emotional and psychological issues among college students.
