About the position

The Staff Psychologist in the Community Living Center (CLC) at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System provides comprehensive psychological services to patients in various care settings, including long-term care, rehabilitation, and hospice. This role involves assessment, intervention, and consultation as part of an interdisciplinary team, focusing on mental health diagnoses and patient coping strategies. The psychologist is expected to demonstrate expertise in psychological assessment, treatment, and crisis management, while also contributing to quality care reviews and participating in medical center committees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, intervention, and professional consultation services to CLC units.
  • Conduct psychological screenings and assessments for psychopathology and cognitive deficits.
  • Deliver psychotherapy for a variety of mental health diagnoses.
  • Assist patients in coping with medical diagnoses and conditions.
  • Provide cognitive screening to address functional and cognitive ability questions.
  • Consult with interdisciplinary medical team members and provide intervention skills.
  • Educate team members on patient behavioral issues and strategies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and manage crises, including suicide prevention.
  • Engage in goals of care conversations and address end-of-life issues.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills towards patients and co-workers.
  • Participate in quality care reviews and assess professional psychology standards.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program (APA, PCSAS, or CPA).
  • Completion of a professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in geriatric psychology or medical settings.
  • Knowledge of current clinical assessment and psychotherapy research literature.
  • Ability to conduct research activities and collaborate with research teams.
