About the position

The Staff Psychologist (PCMHI) position at the Veterans Health Administration in The Villages, FL, is focused on providing integrated mental health care within primary care settings. The psychologist will work collaboratively with the Primary Care Team to deliver brief, evidence-based interventions, conduct assessments, and provide education on behavioral health issues. This role emphasizes a population-based approach to care, ensuring accessibility and efficiency in mental health services for veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily opening access slots by alternating scheduled with open appointments and/or full open access scheduling.
  • Apply principles of population-based care as measured by monthly patient contacts and range of interventions provided.
  • Integrate with the primary care team and collaborate closely with the PACT team.
  • Provide education to PACT on behavioral health issues and consultation for successful care management.
  • Conduct brief appointments, with an average of 75% being 30 minutes or less.
  • Utilize time-limited, evidence-based interventions and brief assessments routinely.
  • Triaging appropriately to specialty mental health services.
  • Provide behavioral medicine interventions via individual and/or group formats.
  • Document clinical notes clearly and concisely, following established templates and guidelines.
  • Consult with PCPs and other PACT team members about patient care plans.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an accredited professional psychology internship training program.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in health psychology or health behavior training.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience comparable to a VA setting.
