About the position

Under the direction of the Director of Student Life (Lancaster), and the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the Staff Psychotherapist provides general counseling and wellness resources for the student body at the Lancaster location. With a clinical background in psychology, counseling, and/or social work, this position is critical for student success and retention, acting as a liaison between the University and the student and connecting the student with external resources to aid in their overall well-being. Duties will include (but are not limited to) individual counseling, group counseling, crisis and behavioral intervention, outreach programming and psychoeducation, and consultation with faculty/staff and outside mental health providers. This is a 12-month, part-time position, working up to 20 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Provides culturally-informed individual counseling to students whose personal situations may be impacting academic performance; includes intake evaluations, goal-focused therapy, crisis intervention, and/or referral to appropriate outside services/resources based on assessment/evaluation.
  • Serves as a first line of support for students in crisis at the Lancaster location.
  • Promotes self-care, mental health, and well-being to the Lancaster campus community through outreach, psychoeducation, and programming around mental health and wellness topics; may assist with similar programming at the Hawk Hill and University City locations.
  • Informs supervisors of emerging trends among student's health and well-being to ensure resources are deployed appropriately.
  • Interfaces with faculty and staff from various departments/programs to provide intervention and care for the student body.
  • Acts as a liaison alongside the Health and Well-being Administrator to refer students to outside well-being resources.
  • Assists with the development of the health and well-being information shared on the Lancaster location's website.
  • Demonstrates commitment to and experience in working with traditionally underserved or marginalized populations (BIPOC students, students identifying as LGBTQIA+, and others), and collaborates with campus partners to provide multi-tiered support for these students.
  • Maintains confidential and accurate student documentation, ensuring that all legal and ethical requirements, as well as SJU policies, are met.
  • Maintains Professional Ethics in all areas, based on Ethical Code applicable to their degree/license.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work is required.
  • A minimum of one year of post-licensure professional experience is required.
  • Current PA State licensure as a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working as a mental health care provider in higher education.
