About the position

The position involves driving the development of innovative medical devices within the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) product portfolio at Smith+Nephew. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the research and development process, from ideation to commercialization, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and focusing on user needs and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and develop innovative concepts for new and/or improved products for minimally invasive and open surgical procedures.
  • Generate design control requirements including design inputs, 3D models, model-driven drawings, and detailed specifications in accordance with medical device regulatory guidelines.
  • Partner with surgeons and healthcare professionals to identify unmet user needs and improve product designs.
  • Generate intellectual property in support of novel ideas and concepts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to drive projects to completion within schedule.
  • Manage partnerships with internal and external resources for concept/product development and testing of devices.
  • Evaluate physical systems and designs using analytical and experimental methods.
  • Define test methods, develop test fixtures, and execute testing of complex mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of technical problems and identify potential solutions.
  • Support pre-clinical and/or clinical testing of devices and systems.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or closely related field.
  • B.S. degree + 6 years hands-on experience in a regulated field, or M.S. degree + 3 years hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in the medical device industry with experience at all stages of a product lifecycle.
