About the position

The Postdoctoral Scientist will join the Lahiri Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, focusing on the intersection of acute systemic disease and neurocognitive function. This role involves conducting groundbreaking research using animal models to explore cognitive decline mechanisms following acute hospitalization. The position requires independent work in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and other research staff, performing complex laboratory procedures, analyzing data, and assisting in grant proposal preparations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period.
  • Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyze, interpret, summarize, and compile data.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of animal surgical areas and compliance with policies.
  • Dispense pharmaceuticals per protocol and maintain appropriate supplies.
  • Perform intubation, mechanical ventilation, vascular catheterization, and line placement in rats and mice.
  • Collaborate with biomedical imaging staff for advanced physiological imaging.
  • Conduct vaccination and survival studies to measure permeability constants using quantitative autoradiography.
  • Utilize innovative histology/imaging techniques including quantitative bright-field and fluorescence microscopy, and confocal microscopy.
  • Perform routine biomedical experimental protocols including immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, ELISA, and neuronal cell culture.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Neuroscience or a related field of research specialization.
  • Technical skills and expertise in neurological, cardiac, and pulmonary physiology, and molecular/cellular biology.
  • Experience in microvascular animal surgery, particularly intubation and mechanical ventilation.
  • Ability to handle small laboratory animals and perform long periods of standing and sitting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced imaging techniques.
  • Familiarity with grant proposal preparation.
